Our location

We are located on a high ridge around two miles west of Cardiff, Wales, in a village called St Nicholas.

This elevated ground at approximately 104 m (340 ft) above sea level separates the River Ely valley from the agricultural landscape of the central Vale of Glamorgan, and allows for measurements outside of the Cardiff urban heat island.

Since the start of 2026, the Belgian Climate Centre has collected our data alongside thousands of observations from elsewhere in Europe.

Prior to this change, we fed into the UK Met Office’s network of 1700 hyperlocal stations, which are being phased out in favour of their own official 405 sites.
